In China, on Xinjiang highlands, at the border with Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Pakistan, live families of yak herders. They sleep in yurts, weave the wool of their yaks and make cheese with the milk. Without worrying about artificial borders, they have always moved their herds freely with the seasons across the vast pastures dominated by majestic snow-capped peaks. But their traditional nomadic way of life is now under threat since the Chinese government decided to fix them in concrete yurts to be able to blend them into the great Chinese uniform system.
